Sky freeway Light source lances the darkness free ways swerve, arch like dolphins swim through the night into tomorrow patterned contrails forge ahead, deep hues sky blue scrolled highlights in a touch of pure gold contrast brush blood red. By solar sail I’ll map superhighways soundless – roam black velvet skies (Link to fractal art that inspired this one http://www.fractalism.com/fractals/alien.htm)

Inspired by the heavens, perhaps, but it had me seeing what we yanks call "spaghetti junction" at night. It's where highways, by passes, over passes and all kinds of intersections converge into one big bowl of what looks like spaghetti from afar. A sight to behold at night, I assure you. D |

Loved the idea of freeways arching like dolphins, Zephyr. I will remember this as I try to figure out the roads here around my new home. I'll just say they are dolphins, not confusing labyrinths that drive me mad! *grin* |

Wonderful imagery in this Zephyr. You had me curious about fractal poetry.. here is an example by Alice Fulton that I found, thought you may like to see it. http://www.pshares.org/issues/article.cfm?prmArticleID=3093 lia |

Dane, we have some spaghetti junctions round our cities too, fortunately none round here just narrow lanes and rolling green countryside. M hope you get the roads figured soon. Lia thank you, mine was visual because inspired by the fractal art, hers more conversational. not sure if both are fractal as a form it's a bit of a slippery eel. |

Zephyr, I can't quite see what makes this fractal as I know nothing about fractal poetry. I know the word fractal became well-known through chaos theory, he he, but I'd be interested in knowing how it pertains to poetry. Loved the poem anyway. Best, Kathryn |

You take fractal in a different direction than Alice. She tries to do it only with words, you have found a look. But how to describe it to someone and how to define it as something other than simple free verse. There are rules to fractals. Could those be appled to this poetry? Say that the length of each line is determined a random number generator - 0 to 15 count. O for S breaks. Food for thought as we remember your lovely words. Another? Centered, a leaf, a forest, or what? Thanks. Gary

Kathryn, thank you, Gary posted a link to an essay on Fractal poetry it's in the posts under my previous Fractal poem, also check out the art link,if you are not inspired by ome of them I'll eat my hat! Gary, thanks, have centred it. Old tree with spreading roots? Gary, an afterthought...something tells me we should be using the fibonnacci numbers for fractals...but randomly instead of sequenced. |

just wanted to come back to say that your piece 'sky freeway' holds what a fractal poem is Zephyr.. each line jumps almost like improvisation in some ways. The last three lines you go to first person which seems to be perfect. A longer fractal poem would jump from images to first person thoughts and contemplations quickly like a train. John Hilty (here on wild) seems to write fractal.. perhaps? Like the tree by the way! Lia |
